Lucas Radebe made his first appearance of the season as United achieved their third clean sheet of the tour. They switched to a 5-3-2 formation and Bodens ad no answer. David Hopkin opened the scoring in the twenty-seventh minute, when he ended a fine run after cutting in from the right and finished with a strong shot that gave the keeper no chance. Six minutes later Ian Harte doubled United's lead when his shot was deflected off the goalkeeper. There was just three changes for the second half with Gary Kelly on for Danny Mills at Right Back, Stephen McPhail for David Hopkin at Inside Left and Lee Bowyer for David Batty at Outside Right. Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink notched the third goal for leeds and Ian Harte got his second and United's fourth to round off the scoring, but Jonathan Woodgate was unlucky to see his header rebound off the woodwork.
